What is a Registered Agent?

A Registered Agent acts on a company's behalf in receiving legal documents such as Service of Process, Annual Reports, Tax Correspondence, and other mailings from regulatory agencies.

Nearly all states require that a company transacting business within that state list a Registered Agent with the State, so that consumers can properly serve a claim upon a company.  Although anyone can serve as a Registered Agent, the majority of companies choose to use a Professional Registered Agent, such as CRS, for numerous reasons including:

  • Accountability for the receipt of legal documents.

  • Availability - Professional Agents do not go on vacation.

  • Customers will not see process servers enter your business.

  • Employees will not be aware of confidential legal matters.

  • And many more reasons...

A Registered Agent is normally appointed upon formation or qualification of an entity, however can be changed at any time.
